• The Alentejo is renowned for its fine wines

The Alentejo is one of the most famous wine regions in Portugal and it has its own wine-tourism programme. There are around 12 vineyards on the wine route which are open to the public and offer restaurants, accommodation and wine tasting.

  • A new centre of "Sporting Excellence"

The intention is to create a centre of sporting excellence which has solid transport links and is ripe to bring in new tourism to this area of Portugal.

Monte Rocha is a 400 hectare (980 acres) private lakeside estate in the lower Alentejo area of southern Portugal only 36 km north of the Algarve. Access from the A2 Algarve to Lisbon motorway is just 8 km away.

The estate is south facing and has a water frontage of 7.2km (4.5 miles). On the highest point, there is a large old Portuguese manor house (Quinta) which can be converted or replaced by a new substantial residence (subject to the necessary planning consents).

The owner of the estate (who was previously Chairman of Quinta do Lago, the most successful resort in the Algarve) has obtained planning approval for a similar kind of health and fitness resort with a spa hotel and numerous sporting facilities including golf, sailing and tennis. The masterplan design has similar characteristics to Quinta do Lago and includes 87 private villa plots.

For those touristic elements of the Monte Rocha development, there is also the opportunity to apply for up to 50% EU Grant funding assistance.
